Huntsville and Muskoka are full of caring organizations who help residents navigate life’s challenges. For International Women’s Day (March 8), we wanted to recognize some of the local groups and volunteers who help women and girls, and by extension their families:
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Muskoka – providing positive role models for girls (and boys, too!)
Family, Youth and Child Services of Muskoka – providing help for children and youth with mental health issues, and improving the health, well-being, education and safety of children and youth.
Great Beginnings – providing pre- and post-natal education and nutrition programs
La Leche League Huntsville – encouraging, promoting and providing breast-feeding support
Muskoka Family Focus & Children’s Place – supporting the needs of families with young children
Muskoka Parry Sound Sexual Assault Services – providing support for victims of violence and sexual assault
Muskoka Women’s Advocacy Group – providing help for women needing shelter and anti-violence resources
One Kids Place – enhancing the lives of children and their families with support for physical, developmental, and communication delays and disabilities
YWCA Muskoka – helping women and girls thrive in a safe community of possibility
(In honour of International Women’s Day, don’t forget to check out the 2016 Women in Film Festival tonight!)
Did we miss any? Give them a shout out of your own in the comments below.
There are many more, of course, who step up to help anyone who needs it, regardless of gender. So this International Women’s Day, here’s to the people who make our community a better place for women, for girls, for everyone.
