Alone at Christmas? The Algonquin Café invites you to their by donation (or by smile) dinner

Will you be alone on Christmas day? You don’t have to be — the Algonquin Café & Deli invites you to join their Christmas Day dinner.

Owner Walter Grys has been volunteering to help people in need for numerous years alongside Catholic organization The Knights of Columbus. The group of men are heavily involved in charitable work around the area, especially throughout the holiday season.

As this year is his first year owning the café, he thought that it would be the perfect place to hold an event on Christmas day.

“Something we really want to stress is that the dinner is completely by donation. If you can’t afford to donate, a simple smile will suffice!” said staff member Corey Howard.

All donations at the event will be given to the St. Vincent De Paul Society. If guests can afford to make a donation, it is greatly appreciated; if they cannot afford to, they are still more than welcome to attend.

Grys, and Shaun Israelstam, manager of the café, will be hosting the dinner along with three staff members: Aly Ford, Corey Howard and Hannah Dempsey.

Not only is the Algonquin offering meals, but if you don’t have a car, the owner will pick you up from your home and drop you off after the meal. Also, in certain circumstances if you are not able to leave your home due to mobility issues, Grys will deliver a meal to your house.

“Everyone deserves to be with family during Christmas and enjoy a nice meal. If you don’t have a family, please come be a part of ours!” said Israelstam.

There will be two seatings for the event at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. To register, visit the Algonquin Café & Deli website, algonquincafe.ca, or call them at 705-784-9700.
