From the Almaguin OPP
The Almaguin Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged six people with impaired driving throughout the month of July.
On Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Deer Lake Road, in Perry Township. As a result, Katie MCNAUGHTON, 32 years-old, of Emsdale was arrested and charged with the following:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol (80 plus)
On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the OPP responded to a traffic complaint on Montreal Avenue, in South River. As a result, Alexander SANGSTER, 43 years-old, of South River was arrested and charged with the following:
- Dangerous operation
- Operation while impaired – alcohol (80 plus)
- Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm
On Thursday, July 24, 2025, at approximately 10:30 a.m., the OPP responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 11, in Perry Township. As a result, Amrutbhai PATEL, 57 years-old, of Windsor, was arrested and charged with the following:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol (80 plus)
On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the OPP responded to an unconscious person on Highway 592, in Perry Township. As a result, Jan HOGENKAMP, 78 years-old, of Mississauga, was arrested and charged with operation while impaired – drugs.
On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the OPP conducted a traffic stop on Highway 11, Perry Township. As a result, Connor HESSE, 32 years-old, of Armour, was arrested and charged with operation while impaired – alcohol (80 plus).
On Thursday, July 31, 2025, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the OPP conducted a traffic stop at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) program, on Highway 11, in Burk’s Falls. As a result, Christopher WILLIAMS, 67 years-old, of Emsdale, was arrested and charged with the following:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol (80 plus)
All the drivers were issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, and their vehicles were impounded.
The accused are all scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sundridge, at a later date.
During this time, the Almaguin Highlands OPP also issued one three-day suspension.
Almaguin Highlands Detachment Commander, Staff Sergeant Doug Vincer says: “the OPP remains committed to taking alcohol and drug impaired drivers off our roads through enforcement. No amount of alcohol or drugs in system is safe when driving”
