UPDATE: Half of the $300 for each painting will go to Hospice Huntsville and the other half will go to the artists.
Featuring 30 artists from across Ontario and 90 works of art, Square Foot North is an art-lovers dream. Not only will patrons leave with beautiful, original works of art, they’ll be supporting an important local cause, too.
“We are grateful that so many emerging, established, and well-known artists from both Muskoka and across Ontario have chosen to participate in support of both Hospice Huntsville and the Huntsville Art Society,” says Marike MacDonald, chair of Huntsville Art Society’s Square Foot North fundraising committee.
Each 12”x12” artwork in this joint fundraiser, being held on the Labour Day long weekend, will be priced at $300, with half going to the artist and the other half split between Hospice Huntsville and the Huntsville Art Society.
“We all felt that Hospice Huntsville is a worthy organization to support,” adds MacDonald. “They provide important services for our community and wouldn’t exist without the support of donors.”
Hospice Huntsville must raise 60 per cent of its operating costs annually to ensure the organization can continue to provide its end-of-life care, including five residential hospice beds and visiting hospice services, as well as grief and bereavement services in both one-to-one and group settings — all of it free of charge to the community. In real numbers, they must raise $685,000 each year, the equivalent of $1,800 per day.
Last year Hospice Huntsville provided in-patient care to 110 residents at Algonquin Grace residential hospice, and since the facility opened on January 10, 2012, 930 residents and their family members have been lovingly cared for.
“Third party events are a core element of our fundraising,” says Melissa Polischuk, fund development and public relations coordinator for Hospice Huntsville. “Individuals, families, and organizations have continued to create unique ways to raise necessary funds and awareness in support of Hospice Huntsville. We are so pleased to partner with the Huntsville Arts Society on the Square Foot North event. Promoting local gifted artists and raising awareness and funds for both organizations is a beneficial partnership. Together we can ensure that our community members can access the high-quality, personalized care they need, want, and deserve.”
The portion of proceeds retained by the Huntsville Art Society will help to support local artists and continue the organization’s community outreach.

“We hope that community members and visitors will come out to support this fundraiser,” says MacDonald. “Square-foot art shows in other communities have been well-received, often with lineups out the door as patrons vie to purchase their favourite works.”
The Square Foot North fundraiser will be hosted at Partners Hall in the Algonquin Theatre (37 Main Street East, Huntsville) on Friday, September 2, 2022 from 6-9 p.m. and will continue on Saturday, September 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. should any pieces remain available for purchase.
