Robinson’s General Store has been closed for months after its previous owner, who purchased the store from the Robinson family, ran into financial troubles. Community members lamented the closure and expressed how much they rely on the store for groceries and other goods. Then, on March 24, Joanne Robinson took to social media on behalf of her family to announce a new owner for Robinson’s General Store. Community members welcomed the news.
Update from Joanne Robinson on behalf of the Robinson family:
“After having been owned and operated by our family for 100 years (1921 to 2021), we were, like all of you, disappointed and devastated when we learned that our beloved Robinson’s General Store closed in January. Since then, we have been working hard in the background to find a solution to allow the business to re-open. We understand the inconvenience this closure has caused the community and we thank you for your patience during this difficult time.
Today we are pleased to announce that a new family, led by brothers Ven Komina and Satya Jyesta, is taking over the operation of Robinson’s General Store and will be re-opening the store very soon.
Knowing how much the store is needed by the community, they plan to open in early April. It will take weeks and months after that to ramp up to full operation. Please understand this and support them through this transition time.
We look forward to the community welcoming the new people and giving them all the support they need to allow the store to thrive again.”

Wonderful news, and we all look forward to seeing this famous “Meeting Place” reopened.
It’s been a huge miss, and sad to drive past seeing it closed.
Not clear if it’s new “owners,” or if the two brothers will be “Operating” the business?
We are so pleased and thankful that this wonderful general store has been purchased and will be up and running as early as April. This is not only a boon to the people of Dorset but to all of the permanent and part time residents of Lake of Bays and surrounding areas. What would we do without this iconic institution and what would become of Dorset? We wish the new owners a speedy & smooth transition. Congratulations to the Robinson family who deserve to see their legacy continue for many years to come.
