Imagine your wedding overlooking a picturesque lake, or against the stunning backdrop of a towering bluff, or even front-and-centre on a professional stage with theatrical lighting and sound. The Town of Huntsville offers all of these possibilities and more with its parks and facilities.
“We have so many different options for wedding ceremonies and receptions,” says Greg Pilling, Manager of Sales and Customer Service for the Town of Huntsville. “There truly is almost something for everyone.”
The town’s local parks provide beautiful settings for a ceremony at almost any time of year. Indian Landing in Port Sydney with its iconic Family Tree is stunning, particularly in the fall. Orchard Park in full spring bloom provides natural floral décor. Camp Kitchen, with both guests and the wedding party arriving via the Portage Flyer, makes for a memorable experience overlooking Fairy Lake. Pitman’s Bay on Mary Lake provides a uniquely private location with kitchen facilities where an outdoor reception could also be held and guests could camp for a full weekend of celebration.
If an indoor ceremony is more your style, your options don’t get much more unique than the Algonquin Theatre. With a dramatic backdrop and lighting, a state-of-the-art sound system, and seating for up to 300 guests in the orchestra section (or 408 in the full theatre), it’s an unforgettable venue. “We even had a couple who had their first dance on the stage following their ceremony,” says Greg. “The photos are amazing.”
For a more historic setting, the chapel at Muskoka Heritage Place provides an antique feel with seating for up to 70 guests. “There are great photo opportunities at Muskoka Heritage Place, too – the old general store, the stables, the train station, or even just the natural landscape.”
The Active Living Centre, which is close to both Muskoka Heritage Place and the Algonquin Theatre, is a beautiful venue for a reception or even a combination ceremony and reception. “It’s not your typical venue. It has a great view of the Muskoka River, a gorgeous fireplace, ample parking, a sound system, a dance floor, and a full catering kitchen and bar area,” says Greg. It can hold up to 200 people for dinner alone or with careful arrangement of the tables for 160 guests a fireplace-side ceremony could be followed by a reception in the same room. If you need the full space for your reception and have planned an outdoor ceremony, the upstairs multi-purpose room can serve as a back-up for poor weather.
There are two local community halls which are also available for receptions: Port Sydney can accommodate 220 guests and its close proximity to Mary Lake makes it the ideal location for a reception following a beach ceremony; the Utterson Community Hall is air conditioned and rentals include china, glassware, and stemware for up to 150 guests. Both have full kitchens and are fully accessible venues.
“All of these options are a cost-effective, affordable way to host your ceremony or reception,” says Greg. A park permit is required for park rentals by the day. Indoor facilities can be rented by the day or weekend and also require a special occasion permit. And don’t forget about a marriage license, which is available at Town Hall by appointment.
“Whatever your vision for your wedding, we can help,” says Greg. “If you can imagine it, we can provide the perfect backdrop.”
