Knox Chiropractic is growing again.
“We’re very happy to announce the addition of Registered Massage Therapist, Taylor Smith,” says Dr. Jocelyn Knox.
Smith was born and raised in Huntsville and has always been active in sports. She spent many years playing basketball, including the Huntsville Hurricanes basketball program which had her traveling the province to compete in tournaments. Multiple personal sports injuries, followed by successful recoveries, led her to pursue a career in health care.
Taylor received a diploma with honours from the Canadian Collage of Massage and Hydrotherapy’s Toronto campus. She completed co-op placements at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto and Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, where common treatment goals included restoring range of motion, increasing circulation, and reducing stiffness and musculoskeletal pain.
While at CCMH, she helped provide treatment at several sporting events, including the Toronto Terry Fox Run and the Heat Wave beach volleyball tournament hosted by Sick Kids Hospital. Smith was also part of the medical staff for the 2019 Canadian Swimming Trials where she was challenged to advance her knowledge and hands-on skills.
She is now an active member of the College of Massage Therapist Association of Ontario and the Registered Massage Therapists Association of Ontario.
Smith uses Swedish massage as the foundation of her treatments with focus on myofascial release, deep tissue, trigger point therapy and sports massage. She has completed additional training in facilitated stretching and pregnancy massage through Trimesters.
The addition of Smith to the team at Knox Chiropractic comes following the arrival of Chiropractors, Dr. Alison Christie and Dr. Anissa Boosamra, earlier this fall. “The need to increase massage therapy hours quickly became evident and we were lucky enough to have great community connections as Taylor was sent our way,” said Dr. Knox.
“Personally I am thrilled with the recent additions to the clinic,” she added. “This allows the clinic to have full-time availability for Huntsville and the surrounding area residents for both Chiropractic care and Registered Massage Therapy.”
Smith joins Lorraine Timm, the clinic’s long-standing RMT, in providing the highest quality of care and will allow Knox Chiropractic to offer an additional 12 to 16 hours of registered massage therapy for its clients.
Smith will be starting with the clinic as of December 10 and is already booking clients.
With a strong knowledge in comprehensive assessment, manual skills and remedial exercise, she hopes to develop personalized treatment plans to benefit her clients’ individual needs with the goal of returning them back to sport or activities of daily living. She is excited to provide massage therapy to this remarkable community she calls home.
Knox Chiropractic Clinic is located at 8 Centre Street North and is open Monday through Friday with extended hours—the clinic is now open three evenings each week to attend to tradespeople and others who can’t make there during the day.
