Tying the knot doesn’t have to mean loosening the purse strings. There are lots of things to think about — and pay for — when you’re planning your big day. Choosing a beautiful but affordable venue for your reception can help keep costs down without sacrificing your dream.
Huntsville’s community halls in Utterson and Port Sydney offer some of the most affordable venue options around. Both have full kitchens and include tables and chairs. Both halls are fully accessible.
Utterson Hall has space for up to 150 people including a stage for a head table, and has kitchen facilities fully stocked with china, glassware, and stemware. There’s even a green space next to the building — available for use at no extra cost — that’s suitable for an outdoor wedding, after which guests can retreat to the cool comfort of the air-conditioned hall for your reception. It’s available for weekend rentals (Friday at 6:00 p.m. to Sunday at 3:00 p.m.) for less than $500.
Port Sydney Hall, just across the street from Port Sydney Beach, has a 60-foot deck with beautiful lake views, making it the ideal location for a reception following a beach ceremony. It’s also just around the corner from Indian Landing, a popular location for wedding photos.
The heritage hall, built in 1925, will accommodate up to 225 guests and has a full kitchen including dishes and cutlery. It has modern lighting, a current sound system, a bar area, and ample parking. And you can rent all of it for less than $700 for the weekend (Friday at 6:00 p.m. to Sunday at 3:00 p.m.).
And don’t forget about Huntsville’s many parks as locations for an outdoor ceremony or photos.
Indian Landing in Port Sydney with its iconic Family Tree is stunning, particularly in the fall. Orchard Park in full spring bloom provides natural floral décor. Camp Kitchen, with both guests and the wedding party arriving via the Portage Flyer, makes for a memorable experience overlooking Fairy Lake. Pitman’s Bay on Mary Lake provides a uniquely private location with kitchen facilities where an outdoor reception could also be held and guests could camp for a full weekend of celebration.
“All of these options are a cost-effective, affordable way to host your ceremony or reception,” says Greg Pilling, Manager of Sales and Customer Service for the Town of Huntsville. A daily permit is required for park rentals. Indoor facilities can be rented by the day or weekend and also require a special occasion permit. And don’t forget about a marriage license, which is available at Town Hall by appointment.
And these venues aren’t perfect only for weddings — they’re ideal for anniversaries, family reunions, milestone birthday parties, celebrations of life, and other special events, too.
If you are planning a wedding or event, please visit the Town of Huntsville website for more information or contact Greg Pilling at [email protected].

I have officiated at quite a few of these halls and have seen them transformed into beautiful venues for weddings, and Greg and staff are wonderful to work with.

Of note, the Stephenson District Lions Club built the deck at the Port Sydney Hall with help from many generous local suppliers, plus they did the siding , windows, doors, and insulation with help from a provincial government grant. As well, they have helped at the Utterson Hall with the newer front enterance, meeting room upgrades, kitchen and chair upgrades over the years.
