The Coldest Night of the Year is a two or five-kilometre walk to raise funds for the Table Soup Kitchen Foundation in Huntsville. This year, the Huntsville walk will be celebrating its 14th anniversary!
The Table helps vulnerable children, individuals, and families in our community through a series of services, including its food bank, soup kitchen, exchange store, and men’s hostel. The Table is currently expanding into a new location and will add additional services to help vulnerable community members without question, and provide an opportunity for the community to support its mission, explained Table Soup Kitchen Foundation founding executive director Heather Cassie.
The walk will begin at the Table Plaza at 12 Cann Street. Participants will start gathering at 4 p.m., with opening ceremonies beginning at 4:45 p.m. and the walk taking place at 5 p.m. After the walk, from 6 to 7 p.m., participants will be treated to soup, buns, and dessert.
The goal this year is to raise $110,000. “Thanks to our lead sponsor, MBRP, for their annual support and contribution to our CNOY walk,” said Cassie, adding that all sponsors are listed on the Huntsville CNOY.org location page.
Cassie said so far, the event has raised about 48 per cent of the goal. “We’re looking for walkers to join us. It’s a simple process; it takes about 10 minutes to sign up. You can join a team at CNOY.org,” she noted. Participants are asked to find the Huntsville location, and they are welcome to join one of two Table teams: Evan’s Table Setters or Our Team.
The site enables participants to send out ‘sponsor me’ emails to anyone, anywhere, and donors are immediately provided a tax receipt.
There are 222 locations across Canada raising funds for charities that help the hungry, hurting, and homeless. Huntsville is one of them.
People can also donate on the website until March 30. “People can sign up and join us even on the day of,” added Cassie.
