Nine Town of Huntsville employees make the 2015 Sunshine List

Public sector salary disclosure, also known as the “Sunshine” list, for 2015 was presented to Huntsville’s General Committee on February 24.

Organizations that receive public funding are required to disclose annually the names, positions and salaries, as well as taxable benefits, of employees who earn $100,000 or more. The public sector is required to report those numbers to the Ministry of Finance on March 31 of each year and those numbers are in turn posted on the Ministry’s website. You can access the numbers as they become available, as well as previous years, by clicking on “municipalities” when visiting the Ministry’s site.

Disclosure practice is ‘ridiculous’ – Councillor Brian Thompson

The practice was referred to as “ridiculous” by Huntsville Councillor Brian Thompson who chaired the meeting in the mayor’s absence and said the Town of Bracebridge is catching up to Huntsville’s numbers. “So hopefully they’ll take the heat off,” said Thompson arguing that the equivalent today to $100,000 in 1996, which is when the legislation was passed, would be about $150,000. “Anyway we have to do it,” he added.

In 2014 the Town of Huntsville had eight employees on the list for a total payout of $911,053.54

Having worked with these staff members over the last 13 years, I believe that everyone on this list is worth every penny and more. Ha, every town employee should be given a bonus for having to accommodate a new Council every four years. I also agree with Councillor Thompson’s comment.
