According to a release from the Lake of Bays fire department, the long running August long-weekend tradition, FireFest, at the Dwight Beach is being cancelled this year due to a lack of resources to operate the event properly and safely. The specific resources they are lacking are volunteers, firefighters and donations.
FireFest has been an annual tradition held at the Dwight Beach for 25 years. Volunteers and firefighters have provided a day for the community and their families to come out and enjoy some fun-filled activities at the beach while interacting with their local firefighters. This has always been followed-up by a dazzling fireworks display to close off the evening.
The FireFest Committee would like to extend their gratitude to the residents and supporters of this event in the past.
Any member of the community interested in joining the fire department is asked to contact the Huntsville/Lake of Bay Fire Department as they are currently running a recruitment drive for new members. For more information, click here. Applications are due by June 23rd.
