Downtown Huntsville’s newest addition, Rustic Homespun Designs, is about more than just home decor.
“My main goal is to create the perfect gift or decor piece for your house that brings meaning to you at an affordable cost,” said owner Kristen Blackburn.
Rustic Homespun Designs offers a wide variety of home decor and gifts, including stove covers, noodle boards, serving trays, blanket ladders, knitted blankets, bathroom decor, candles, mugs, shirts, and coasters. All can be personalized and customized, from stains and handles to quotes and images.
“Sometimes when purchasing a product like this online, you never really know what you’re getting,” said Blackburn. “By opening my store, folks are able to come in and look at examples in person. They can speak to me and I will do my best to bring their vision to life.”
Everything at Rustic Homespun Designs is made in-store and has a 72-hour turnaround time.
In addition to her own personalized pieces, Blackburn showcases a variety of products made by other Canadian small businesses.
“I wanted to give other small businesses the same opportunities that I have been given,” she said.
Blackburn was born and raised in Huntsville and was surrounded by family-run businesses her entire life.
Her family owned Blackburn’s Marina and Blackburn’s Variety and she would help run the till growing up.
“My maternal grandfather, who everyone knows as Poppa Jim, owned several gas stations. This is where, quite young, we learned to pump gas, wash windows, and help with book-keeping. We would call and say is Poppa there? And everyone always knew who was calling and who we were looking for. This is exactly what I want my children to feel, experience, and remember. And this is why I knew I needed to start my business where my natural roots are,” said Blackburn.
Blackburn’s kids are heavily involved in the business and help with many aspects including sanding, staining, and building products.
The soft launch for Rustic Homespun Designs, which is located at 59 Main Street E, was on Saturday, March 13. They will be holding a grand opening on March 27, with prizes to be won.
