Affordable housing and how to create more of it, the impact short-term rentals are having on the community and what restrictions should be applied to the practice, helping businesses recover from COVID, taxation, money for hospitals, and addressing vacant commercial property were among the issues covered at the forums held on the evening of September 28 at the Algonquin Theatre.
Audience members wanted to know how the candidates would address the opioid and mental health crisis in the community, how infrastructure would keep up with development and who would pay for it, how they’d ensure the municipality didn’t pass insurmountable debt and burden future generations, and how candidates would make sure taxes are kept down. Others wanted to get a sense of the candidates by asking them what area of interest they held and what committee they would choose to sit on.
There are precisely three candidates running for each Town ward—numerologists can have a field day with that. For District, there are five candidates running for that position.
Huntsville Doppler will be presenting their answers as time permits, in the interim, if you were not able to attend the forums, you can watch YourTV’s stream below:
If you follow the Town’s link here, you’ll get a list of who is running where and their contact information.
