Broken hearts and lives interrupted—war changed so much for so many. Bruce Alexander Reynolds’ photo is one of many along Huntsville’s Main Street—an effort by the Huntsville Downtown BIA to commemorate those who sacrificed their lives for our fundamental freedoms. He was the son of Charles Benjamin and Violet Lynette Reynolds and the husband of Alice Mary Reynolds, of Huntsville, Ontario.

He was born in Haliburton but grew up in Huntsville and went to Huntsville High School. He was also a member of Trinity United Church, according to a newspaper clipping from 1944.

He enlisted in the Canadian Armed Corps in June 1942 and trained at Newmarket and Camp Borden. He went overseas in December 1942. While in England, he transferred to the Calgary Tanks and fought in Italy.

At first, he was reported missing then later it was confirmed that he died fighting in Italy. Reynolds was 23. He is buried in the Foiano Della Chiana War Cemetery in Italy.  The war lasted six years and one day and resulted in the death of approximately 45 million civilians and more than 20 million soldiers.

You can find more information, here.

The image of Tropper Bruce Alexander Reynolds hangs over Huntsville’s Main Street as a reminder of the sacrifices made and lives lost during World War II.
