Verna Mary Rickward (nee Mason)

Verna passed away at the Algonquin Grace Hospice in Huntsville on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the age of 88.

Verna was born April 15, 1936, at Sand Lake, Kearney, Ontario, to the late Carman and Sarah Mason. Verna was the oldest of three children. Verna was always busy; she was involved with 4H, her church, square dancing, and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Verna leaves behind her beloved husband Harvey, her children Robert (Bonnie), Glen (Joyce), Donald (Laurie), Tammy (Joe), and her grandchildren Michael (Heidi), Derek (Kandis), Kyle (Amanda), Katie (Darcy), Hunnah (Dan), Julie (Jesse), Josh, Noah, and great-grandchildren Ella, Alex, Mason, Sterling, Blake, and Sullivan.

Verna is the sister of Bob (Marion) and the late Aubrey (late Jan) and will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family will receive visitors at the Opatovsky Funeral Home-Dempster Chapel, 210 Ontario Street in Burk’s Falls, on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. 

A service to celebrate Verna’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024, in the Kearney Community Centre, 8 Main Street in Kearney, with Doreen Mason officiating. 

A private interment will follow in Knox United Cemetery in Kearney.  If desired, memorial donations to Algonquin Grace Hospice would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
