Planning Council requests more information about hydrogeological study conducted at former Utterson school

At its March 11 meeting, Huntsville Planning Council put planning applications for a ten-unit conversion of the former Muskoka Christian School in Utterson on hold.

Councillors wanted more information about the hydrogeological study conducted.

Area residents, many of whom noted they are on dug wells, expressed concerns about the project’s density, particularly the impact a ten-unit development could have on surrounding wells.

Two residents said they had recently experienced impacts on their wells—one ran dry, and the other said their well went down about 10 centimetres during the hydrogeological study. Concerns were also raised about the number of wells tested in the study.

Other concerns expressed included parking, privacy, and the impact of the density on a small hamlet that lacks the amenities of urban areas. Residents said they did not oppose a couple of rental units, but said 10 is too much.

In the end, Planning Council requested that the consulting engineer attend a future meeting to provide additional information regarding the hydrogeological study conducted and its impact on neighbouring properties.
