Trucks from all over Ontario pulled into ‘The Garage’ on Saturday

Over 400 trucks and 1000 people from all over the province arrived at The Garage on Saturday for their annual Trucks of Ontario Meet and Dyno Day. The truck owners meet informally throughout the year in their local communities but this gathering is the largest, and arguably, the most fun for them.

“People drive six hours, from all over, Timmins, Guelph London, Ottawa, to come here for the day, just to hang,” enthused Ginger Barkey CFO of The Garage and host for the day. “These guy get together every Saturday but it’s nothing like this. They’ll go to a Canadian Tire parking lot and just hang out. What’s so great about getting here today is that they organize convoys so it could be ten trucks, it could be 30, cruising up the highway.”

This is the fourth year that The Garage has hosted the Trucks of Ontario meet. A charity barbecue was part of the mix. Dan Barkwell, from Moose Delaney’s, was on hand to cook burgers and dogs for the approximately 1000 people who attended The Garage on Saturday. They were able to raise almost $3,000 for The Table Soup Kitchen.

Among the completely decked-out, hopped up, large trucks were a couple of Rat Rod’s. “There are a couple of trucks here that look like they are rusty old beaters but they have really well built chassis,” Ginger explained. “I call them sleepers trucks. They don’t look like they are much but they really are. They’re rusty. They look like the belong in a back field somewhere but they are very well built. They aren’t rusty because they are old. They are rusty because that’s the thing.”

There were many trucks lined up to get on the Dyno. The portable dyno measures how much horsepower the truck can produce and provides bragging rights to the owner.

This Jeep was build by The Garage and is for sale! It has a 2007 Jeep chassis, a Cummins diesel engine, lifted wheels and the entire Jeep has been finished with Line X (the ultra-durable finish used to protect bedliners).
