Today, we launch a new video series, This is Huntsville, bringing you the people and places of Huntsville, past and present.
This week, the S.S. Algonquin and her fellow steamships played an instrumental—and beloved—part in Huntsville’s early decades. The Algonquin’s bell could be heard for kilometres around as it ferried passengers from the train station, past the swing bridge and to the lakes beyond.
After being recovered from the sunken ship, the S.S. Algonquin’s bell now calls the museum archives at Muskoka Heritage Place home. Learn more about its history in the video below.
