The Huntsville Community Choir, now in its 35th year, has performed in Christmas concerts throughout the years, and this year is no exception.
The choir has been in rehearsals since the beginning of September in anticipation of their November 30th concert, “A Winter’s Night of Joy.” However, this year, the choir is participating in something very special. They are collaborating with the Whispering River Orchestra and Chorus to perform The Messiah.
The Messiah is perhaps the most well-known Christmas Oratorio, dating back to 1742. It is a dramatic and expressive grouping of pieces that has been thrilling audiences over the centuries. The finale, “Hallelujah,” is the most recognizable piece and brings forth feelings of triumph and celebration.
The two choirs and orchestra are busy rehearsing in locations in Parry Sound, Rosseau, and Huntsville. Brenda Muller, founder of Whispering River Music, is the Orchestra’s director, while Louis Tusz is the choirmaster. Philip Morehead will be the concert conductor and will bring his years of experience and mastery to the performances. Four professional soloists will accompany the choir: Amy Dodington, Soprano; Celine Cascanette, Alto; Fabián Arciniegas, Tenor; and Jonathon Kirby, Bass.
The Messiah will be performed on Dec. 20th at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian, Huntsville, and on Dec. 21st at the Stockey Centre in Parry Sound. Tickets for the Performance in Huntsville are available at www.huntvillecommunitychoir.com for $45, while tickets for the Parry Sound performance will be available both from the Stockey Centre, 705-746-4466, and Whispering River, 705-996-0736, for $46.95 + HST. Both concerts begin at 7:30 p.m.
We invite you to come out and immerse yourself in this unforgettable performance. It will surely instil the true Christmas spirit into your heart.
