“We pride ourselves on the highest level of service we offer to our guests,” says Tasha, who was raised in Huntsville and has been a hair stylist for more than 10 years. “We all get along so well. Everyone has their own different techniques.”
There is a real feeling of family at The Hudson and that’s just one thing that’s making it stand out from the rest. Even Tasha and Tanya’s mother, Denise, works as a receptionist part-time and says she’s “just happy to be here for the girls.” She fits right in with her sweet and caring nature.
Tasha attended a college for hair design in Hamilton and then spent some time taking courses in Toronto to improve her professional skills. She has been consistent in keeping herself abreast of all the latest hair and fashion trends and that certainly adds to her overall flair. She is keen to make her clients happy and cares deeply about the end result. Her sunny disposition and passion for hair is reflective in her stylings. A strong desire to make people feel their very best makes Tanya a master at what she does. Aside from managing the salon, she is also an eyelash technician and is an expert at creating beautiful, fluttering eyelashes. As a person who constantly strives for perfection, Tanya works with her clients to create perfect eyelashes suitable for their own style and taste.

Hair stylist and makeup artist Rhéa Robert, has been at the Hudson almost since the beginning. She says she finds doing hair calming and enjoys the rewards of being able to create changes.
“I love anything I can see a change in,” she says. “Whether that’s transformations in colour, stylings, updos or makeup.”

Kristal Gill admits there’s never a dull moment when you’re a busy hair stylist. “Everyone is great here,” says the up-beat 24-year-old of the team she works with. “There’s always something different to do and the clients are amazing.”
Hair stylist Stacey Thornton has been doing hair for 19 years and the last two-and-a-half have been at The Hudson. She’s got charisma and a whole lot of passion for what she does and her unique personality is certainly highlighted.

Maggie Best originally trained in Vancouver and arrived at The Hudson 14 months ago. She enjoys building relationships with people and says it’s the clients who make every day different. Maggie raves about The Hudson’s new organic haircolour product line, which is offered exclusively at The Hudson. She is a certified technician with the U.K.-based chemical-free line called Organic Color Systems.
“I don’t use anything else,” states Maggie. “The results are amazing. You get everything from the line without the added chemicals.”
Kristi McLennan can offer you a few tips on how to tame a tousled mop and has a forte for tailoring shorter dos. She isn’t afraid of curly hair either. Up until her move north, she spent six years working in Toronto at a popular salon.
Look as good as you feel: Take time to get pampered
The Hudson also has two talented estheticians on-hand and both are equally motivated to see their clients walk out completely satisfied.
Julia Gruber is a certified esthetician and makeup artist who has four years of experience in spa and proven nail techniques. She has a knack for nail art and is always learning new styles and trends. Beauty is more than just skin-deep and she wants clients to radiate beauty inside and out. As a makeup artist for off-site weddings, she has an affinity for meeting and working with new people.
Robyn Cunningham is the salon’s newest recruit and the resident beauty expert. She spent seven years working in Ottawa at various spas and even has an esthetician mentor course under her belt. She does everything from nails to waxing and hot rocks massages but her true passion lies in facials.
“Skin care is so important,” she says, adding that Muskoka has so many active people whose skin is constantly exposed to the elements. “I’ve worked with a skincare line for four years prior to starting here and it’s amazing. It combines science and nature. It’s a synergy of both that works without stripping the skin or causing any damage.”

This past summer, due to a demand in the Lake of Bays area, The Hudson opened a small salon on Bigwin Island to cater to the cottagers who might not want to travel all the way into town to get pampered. The salon has also won four Reader’s Choice Awards. The Hudson stylists are preparing to compete against a bevy of big-name makeup artists and stylists for a chance to win a Contessa Award and to be featured in Salon Magazine.
“It’s like the Academy Awards for hair stylists and makeup artists,” she says. “We’re all competing in different categories and will be judged by a panel of experts. One of the categories we’ve entered into is a group effort category. [Winning] would mean that we’re truly a team. We all give our best together. It would be recognition in a big magazine around the world.”
Both Tasha and Tanya recognize the importance of being able to give back to the community. They often step up to the plate when it comes to local fundraisers and charitable initiatives as a way to say thanks for all the support they’ve received. They find it humbling to be part of such an amazing little town and are also grateful to other area business owners for standing behind The Hudson since it first opened.
