Terra Lightfoot tour continues in Huntsville on January 26

Lauded Canadian recording artist/songwriter Terra Lightfoot is renowned for her powerful stage presence and live shows. Since the release of her debut solo album in 2011, Lightfoot (no relation to Gordon Lightfoot), has steadily earned a reputation not only as a stellar guitarist and singer but as a highly respected songwriter. She is a popular performer both as a solo act and with her trio, more importantly, she is in high demand as an opening act for the likes of Blue Rodeo, Blackie, the Rodeo Kings, and many more.

With her commanding style of pop-rock, Lightfoot has toured relentlessly throughout North America and Europe, increasing her demand as a much-beloved concert musician. Her influences, often reflected in her material, range from seventies rock to Nashville country, which she can apply effectively to almost any song choice she chooses, in narrative and theme.

On her fifth album, released October 13, 2023, ‘Healing Power’, Terra ascends to a singular position with an astounding display of originality and spellbinding creativity. Multiple reviewers rave about the infectious sound Lightfoot, with producer Gus Van Go (Coriandoli), crafted to commandeer the range of emotions and themes that Lightfoot’s songs explore – from boisterous exuberance to reflective, peaceful happiness and newly found love.

The inspirational concept for ‘Healing Power’ struck Terra while she was on tour in Austria in 2018.  Like Marie von Trapp, the free-spirited, independent character from The Sound of Music. Terra explains, “I was in that kind of landscape, in Austria, and I had just been nominated for a Juno and a Polaris Music prize, for my record ‘New Mistakes’ (2017), and I was coming off a tour in Australia and I was on my way to the States and I had no time to go back to Canada. I was doing shows in Germany also. I rented a car, figured out how to drive in Germany and Austria, which was hard!

“So, I just sort of took myself on this three-day trip and I found I really needed that time. And I went hiking every day and I ended up hiking to the very top of this beautiful mountain and I found this tree growing all by itself in a place where trees do not grow. It became this huge symbol of grow where you are planted, keep going, keep growing, no matter what.

“It wasn’t a perfect tree; it wasn’t a beautiful tree. It was just there. It had persevered. For me that meant that no matter what was going on with me, despite all the success, I needed to figure out how to be like that tree. I am here. It’s cool, everything’s good. So, five years later this record came out and I feel like I found the way to do that – the way to make myself feel better. It was a path of self-discovery and also a path of self-acceptance, which I think is important for everybody. When we go out to play these songs, with a band, (which) we did (on)a big tour in December, in Ontario, people told me that they felt that”.

‘Healing Power’, firstly, through the album and now this extended tour, remarkably encompasses a universal touchstone, that most concertgoers immediately relate to. Healing comes from within an inner resource and power we all possess – to accept, to forgive, and finally to love.

Terra Lightfood will be playing in Huntsville at 7 p.m., at Jimmy Joy’s Music Room, 2400 Lone Pine Drive, Port Sydney. Tickets are available at https://www.jimmyjoys.ca/copy-of-upcoming-shows-1.
