It’s Wayback Wednesday!: Standard Garage in Allensville | Sponsored by Jamie Lockwood, broker/owner of Sutton Group Muskoka Realty

It’s Wayback Wednesday, sponsored by Jamie Lockwood, broker/owner of Sutton Group Muskoka Realty!

This photo was taken in 1926 and shows Standard Garage in Allensville, facing south. It was located on the east corner of Old Muskoka Road and Stevenson Road 7. Part owner Seth Grimes is standing on the far left. The year was 1923 when Seth Grimes and Percy Mulveney began their business partnership which consisted of repairing and selling used vehicles. Both men were from local pioneer families. Grimes stayed in the auto business for many years, operating such garages as Utterson Garage, Grimes Garage, West End Motors, Golden Mile Motor Court, and Bracebridge Garage. Mulveney went on to work for the Department of Northern Affairs, also operating The Pines with his father Charles, which was a service station with a lunch bar and cabins.

Photo from Muskoka Digital Archives – private collection.
