A string of equipment thefts at three different Huntsville locations last week has left staff and owners reeling.
Hutcheson Memorial Cemetery on Muskoka Road 3, a woodlot on Aspdin Road, and a cottage construction site near Hutcheson Beach were struck by thieves sometime between last Tuesday, November 10 and Thursday, November 12.
At the cemetery, equipment used to maintain the grounds was taken from a storage shed. Municipal staff noticed the break-in when they arrived at work on Wednesday morning.
Three saws owned by SI Construction were stolen around the same time frame from a storage area at a cottage job site. “The cottage is pretty much complete and we are just working on landscaping,” said Steph de Koning, the company’s bookkeeper and office manager. “They were expensive saws and we’ve had to replace them.”
Three sheds located at a property on Aspdin Road were also broken into. The owner, Michael Peters, arrived at the property Friday morning to discover damaged sheds and thousands of dollars in missing equipment, including two generators, an air compressor, and an industrial battery charger. He said thieves also managed to take an estimated 300 litres of fuel. “This is upsetting and extremely frustrating. It has really set us back. That’s expensive equipment,” he said.
Anyone with information about these thefts is asked to contact Huntsville OPP or CrimeStoppers.
