THIS BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT SHINES ON
Brought to you by these community-minded organizations because they recognize that
good business is good for everyone:
When Claire and Lauren Doughty began studying law, they knew that one day they wanted to open a practice together. That day has come.
They grew up in Huntsville and went to both public school and high school here. After graduating from law school, Lauren returned to Muskoka to live and work while Claire spent time first in Toronto and then in Alberta for the past four years before deciding it was time to return home.
“We both have had the opportunity to get experience elsewhere and learn our profession,” says Claire. “When I was making plans to move home, I started talking to Lauren to see what her plans were.”
“I think it’s something we’ve always wanted to do, being in practice together,” adds Lauren. “It was just a matter of timing.”
Because the Huntsville area fosters entrepreneurs and small business, it’s the ideal location for them to strike out on their own, and they say lawyers in the local bar have been welcoming and supportive. “It’s a really nice environment in which to practice,” says Claire.
Their new firm, Doughty and Doughty, opened on March 12 to offer real estate law and wills and estates services to the Muskoka community. Claire and Lauren have plans to expand, first hiring some office staff this spring and eventually adding corporate law to their services.
“We are trying to offer our services at as competitive a rate as we can in comparison to the local market,” says Claire. “We are eager and would welcome any new clients.” They are also offering an introductory rate for new clients as they begin to grow their practice.
We are both excited to be opening a business in the community we’ve grown up in, that we love, and we’re looking forward to being part of the legal community in Muskoka.
From a real estate perspective, they recognize that many home buyers are unaware of the legal process involved in purchasing a home, and intend to keep their clients well informed. “Buying a house is one of the biggest financial transactions that most people will make in their lifetime,” says Claire. “It’s always good to use an experienced real estate agent, and also be involved in the process with your lawyer. We will keep as close communication with our clients as we can so they know from start to finish all of the steps we are taking.”
That accessible approach permeates their entire practice—both Claire and Lauren have a strong desire to provide exceptional customer service to their clients.

Congratulations
Kudos to you both! Being a one-trick pony, however, I chose to take “accessible approach” entirely out of context. How accessible is your office? How accessible could renovations render it?

For two young ladies wishing to expend their practice, you could do far worse than reaching out to the 15% of persons with disabilities in Town.
Congratulations ladies, a great addition to our town and an incredible opportunity for the two of you to work along side each other.
Congratulations wishing you many years of success.
Congratulations Lauren and Claire! I am sure your new enterprise will be a great success.
