Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch that includes Huntsville, Baysville, Rosseau, Almaguin, and Algonquin Park. South Muskoka municipalities are under watch as well.
Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts of 90-110 km/h and large (nickel to toonie-sized) hail. Tornadoes are possible as well.
The watch is in effect for this afternoon and this evening.
“Large hail can damage property and cause injury,” reminds Environment Canada. “Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!”
The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
