Power outage affecting thousands of customers as restoration efforts continue

According to Hydro One, there are an estimated 5,000 customers in the region without power due to last night’s thunderstorm.

Crews are out in full force to restore power quickly and safely and have restored thousands of customers since last night.

“As there are multiple outages across the area, each with their own unique restoration time, I can’t quite pinpoint an exact time when everyone will have their power back,” according to Hydro One spokesperson Bianca Teixeira.

She said there are a few remote customers who might not be back up until tomorrow as their area requires specialized equipment access for restoration to be done as safely as possible.

“We know there was some weather in the area that caused downed lines, and we just want to urge people to stay at least 10 metres back if they encounter any downed lines and call 911 or Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235,” she added.

I appreciate the rapid response in inclement weather by our Hydro workers. What a hard and under-acknowledged job they do!
