When Kathy Sheridan, owner of Reflections of Muskoka for 31 years, saw a Huntsville Legion volunteer sporting a poppy mask, she wanted to make them available at her store in order to help the organization fundraise.
All of the poppy masks are being made by ladies who volunteer at the legion.
“The sales have been phenomenal,” said Sheridan. “We sold every one they had made just in the first day. The volunteers were surprised at how many people want them, there was even a waiting list.”
After learning how well the masks had been selling, the legion volunteers found more material and went to work making more.
Reflections plans to sell them until they run out of poppy material or until November 11, whichever comes first.
“I wanted to sell these for them because it has been a hard year for the legion and I know they would not have the same revenue opportunity to sell poppies this year,” said Sheridan. “They lost most of their revenue with no weddings or funeral lunches happening.”
Sheridan also knew that since most of the legion’s volunteers are seniors, her store would be a safer place to sell the masks.
“It is one of those things that a small community does. We are here to help each other and I knew I could sell a lot of masks for them. Never in my 31 years of owning a retail store did I ever think that face masks would be the new accessory,” she said.
After more discussion with the ladies of the legion, Sheridan discovered that they also make pot pies so she will be helping to promote sales of those as well after Remembrance Day has passed.
Because the poppy masks have been selling so quickly, Sheridan recommends calling the store at 705-789-3240 to preorder. They are $10 each and come in both kids’ and adult sizes.
