The Huntsville High School (HHS) athletic banquet was held on June 15 in celebration of the excellent participation and achievement of Huntsville’s student athletes this past year, and their championship successes on the field/court/track. In addition to the major awards recognizing the top male and female athletes in the junior and senior categories, many individual teams also chose to honour excellence with Most Outstanding Player (MOP) and Most Sportsmanlike Player (MSP) awards specific to their team.
The celebration was held in the HHS gymnasium, which was transformed into a banquet hall for the evening and where students were first served a three-course meal prepared by the school’s culinary department. This year, the evening concluded with a semi-formal dance that was also open to all students.
“Congratulations to all of our award winners as well as the coaches at HHS who volunteer their time to provide such an amazing complement of teams and clubs for the athletes at Huntsville High School,” said HHS Athletic Director Ross Clarke.
The major awards of the 2016/2017 school year were as follows:
Mark Cheek was recognized with the Special Olympic Olympian Award, as well as the Most Outstanding Player in the Para category on the Nordic ski team
