Director of Operations and Protective Services Tarmo Uukkivi told Huntsville Council at its April 24 meeting that the River Mill washrooms will not be ready before the May long weekend as previously anticipated.
“As things go in the post-COVID world, we’ve run into a number of different supply challenges and contractor challenges in securing proper materials and people for the locations…” according to Uukkivi who said he is hopeful that the washrooms will be ready sometime in June. He said the washroom facility itself is nearing completion at the factory in Quebec where it is being preassembled.
He also told council that the water and sewage services that the washrooms will have to tie into are under the parking lot at River Mill Park which means the parking area will need to be dug up. “So there will be either a portion or a full closure of that parking lot for periods of time during the construction and installation,” he explained.
Deputy Mayor Dan Armour asked whether there would be porta potties at the park, Uukkivi said there would be. Mayor Nancy Alcock also noted at the meeting that organizers of events at the park are also required to provide them.
The funds to purchase the washrooms were donated by area resident Margaret Conner.

Preassembled in Quebec.? Was there not any local talent available?
I am sure a Huntsville contractor could have had this up and flushing months ago!
All this just for a fancy outhouse? Just a thought.

Good to know. BTW: The washrooms at Town Hall are Out Of Order, still; they were a few weeks ago. Perhaps repairs have been made?

Honestly, it does not in-still a sense of confidence when our local government can’t figure out something as basic as washrooms.
