It’s Wayback Wednesday!: Old soccer field and baseball diamond | Sponsored by Jamie Lockwood, broker/owner of Sutton Group Muskoka Realty

It’s Wayback Wednesday, sponsored by Jamie Lockwood, broker/owner of Sutton Group Muskoka Realty!

Before Huntsville had Conroy Park and McCulley-Robertson Recreation Park and even before the Lions Lookout field, soccer was played behind the arena near Huntsville High School. It was a combination field for soccer and part of the corner was the old baseball diamond. This Wayback Wednesday photo was submitted courtesy of Huntsville resident Glen Duffield. Can you guess the approximate date of this photo?

This photo must have been taken after I spent a lot of years playing ball and lacrosse there. Who played soccer then? It was tough enough keeping one ball diamond in shape, and then getting time to play on it.
I wonder how many lacrosse ball were bounced of that block wall, and by how many aspiring box lacrosse all-stars and nimrods?
As to the year, well into the 70’s? Just a guess. Does somebody actually know, or is this a trick question?

Before the grass grew it was clay. Always enjoyed the march from H.P.S. on Fall Fair day, down Main Street with my parents proudly watching. Then on to stand in the mud listening to the long and boring speeches from our local elected gems. Wish my grandchildren could have enjoyed the experience. Thanks for the good photo
