New signage recognizes million-dollar donors to Huntsville Hospital

Submitted by the Huntsville Hospital Foundation

Sprott Foundation and the Dani Reiss Family Foundation are community leaders and seasonal residents who care about their cottage community. They chose to support Huntsville Hospital because they know their donation is an investment in our community which will help improve healthcare for all residents. We are proud to unveil new signage at the front of Huntsville Hospital to recognize their transformative gifts and to inspire others.

Eric and Vizma Sprott have long been known for their generous support of health care in Ottawa and Toronto. Their gift of $1M to Huntsville Hospital Foundation was received in August of 2018, and has had a substantial impact on healthcare in Muskoka. Like so many seasonal residents, the Sprotts, their children and grandchildren have had to visit the hospital. “We have had the occasion to use the hospital and we’re grateful it is there, especially as we spend more time in this community. We wanted to know what we could do to help,” said Eric Sprott.

President and CEO of Canada Goose, Dani Reiss enjoyed many years coming to the Huntsville/Lake of Bays area as a child, and now more recently spends time here with his own family. “I strongly believe in giving back to the communities that we are a part of and inspired by,” said Reiss. “As a teaching hospital for doctors and nurses who are looking to apply their skills to northern Canada, Huntsville Hospital is known as a gateway to
the North, and is a community that has long held a personal connection for me. Our hope is that this gift will inspire others to give.”

The Dani Reiss Family Foundation committed to a significant gift of over $1M supporting advanced technology for the hospital that helps our professionals save lives and that is not currently covered by provincial healthcare taxes. Canada Goose also recently donated gowns and other protective equipment to support the hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Katherine Craine, executive director of Huntsville Hospital Foundation says, “The Sprotts’ and the Reisses’ donations make a positive difference in the lives of individuals in this community. We depend on donations from our entire community so our health teams have the best of technology to do their jobs. Both of these generous families have been inspired by this community’s passion and support of its hospital, and wanted to express their support. And great things happen when we work together! Many thanks to the Sprotts and the Reisses for your investment in Huntsville hospital!”

Huntsville Hospital Foundation is a fundraising organization dedicated to improving healthcare services for residents of Muskoka and East Parry Sound. A registered charity since 1984, its mandate is to provide ongoing capital and education resources for Huntsville District Memorial Hospital that is not covered by provincial taxes. This will ensure our hospital and medical professionals have the technology and equipment they require to provide exceptional care. We should all appreciate these generous donations that will be applied to enhance the hospital’s service delivery. It benefits all who require medical assistance.
If you can spare enough to make a donation to the foundation or to Hospice, it will be used to enhance service to all people.
These are awful times for so many people but, if you can contribute, any amount will make a difference.

  2. As a resident, I thank you!
