This August, Community Living Huntsville will host their very own release party for a CD featuring talented musicians from the area.
The idea for the project came from local musician Douglas McLean, who is covering the costs of both CD donation and production, in collaboration with producer Dylan Teakle and album art from Tristen Metcalf.
“Lots of young musicians have come to me and don’t know where to start,” said McLean. “I thought it would be a nice opportunity for those who haven’t recorded yet to record a song in a professional setting. All I wanted was the rights of the songs to use in a charity project so it was servicing two sides, musicians and community. It seemed like a win-win and the project really grew and became something pretty incredible.”
To help with marketing and advertising, Hunters Bay Radio will be sponsoring the event.
Artists featured on the CD include Jim Allen, The Flashbacks with Devvie Leis and Ken, Zack Fitzsimmons, Dylan Teakle and The Pistoleers featuring Jenny Smith, James VanMeer, Christine Heron, Douglas McLean, and Andy Fisher.
The money made from each CD will go towards Community Living Huntsville’s inclusion fund and helping hand fund.
“This fund is accessed by anyone with a developmental disability in the Huntsville catchment area who have been determined not eligible by Developmental Services Ontario,” said Michelle Ainsworth, Coordinator of Community Development for Community Living Huntsville. “This fund goes towards supporting individuals who would like to participate more actively in the community, get a job, live independently.”
As the event strives to create inclusivity, all musicians featured on the CD will be volunteers both with and without disabilities.
“The Helping Hands fund assists individuals to purchase items they need that they might not otherwise be able to afford” said Ainsworth, “For example: dentures, glasses, or a warm coat for winter. The Helping Hands fund will not be used for funded services such as speech therapy, physical therapy, respite services, educational services, services provided by any tax funded organization or services that are provided by Community Living Huntsville”.
While the release party is free, Community Living encourages attendees to purchase a CD for $10.
The party, which will be held at Partners Hall on August 23 at 7 p.m., will include refreshments, live musical performances from all musicians featured on the CD and a brief speaking presentation to thank the musicians.
