New art exhibit opens at Canada Summit Centre

The Town of Huntsville is happy to announce the PROGRESSIONS VII art exhibit is on now at the Canada Summit Centre, 20 Park Drive, Huntsville.

PROGRESSIONS VII is an exhibition of 34 works in oils, acrylics and mixed media, produced in the Pine Cottage Studio at the McMichael Canadian Collection in the 2017 Contemporary Landscape Program (Advanced – Level 2) of the Haliburton School of the Arts at Fleming College, Haliburton, Ontario, Canada.

The PROGRESSIONS VII exhibition is touring the Province of Ontario throughout 2017 and 2018.
Stops on the PROGRESSIONS VII tour include:

  • McMichael Canadian Collection, Kleinburg
  • Haliburton School of Art & Design, Haliburton
  • Romini Goodwoods Arts Centre, Goodwood
  • Villa Gallery, Port Perry
  • Studio B, Neilson Park Creative Centre, Etobicoke
  • Canada Summit Centre, Huntsville

The PROGRESSIONS VII exhibition exemplifies the commitment of the McMichael Canadian Collection and Fleming College to our artistic heritage and to supporting the development of contemporary creative expression in Canada.

John C. Leonard (AOCA, VCAD, RCA), and the artists working with him, have created a body of work that reflects a passion for painting and pays homage to Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven, who advanced Canadian art and played a prominent role as advocates for the importance of art education during a defining epoch in Canada’s national history.

PROGRESSIONS VII is a showcase and celebration of our landscape and of the commitment of these artists, in a number of styles.

Like A.Y. Jackson, the artists understand the importance of expressing “in paint, the spirit of our country”; and, like J.E.H. MacDonald, they have engaged in a “courageous experiment (which) is not only legitimate but vital to the development of a living Canadian art.”

A listing of the emerging and established artists in this exhibit is on display. The PROGRESSIONS VII exhibit runs to October 18, 2018, and is free and accessible whenever the Canada Summit Centre is open.

Additional display items are from the Muskoka Heritage Place Collection, 88 Brunel Road, Huntsville www.muskokaheritageplace.org 705 789 7576.

Works in this exhibit are not for sale.

The Town of Huntsville thanks artists Ross Davis and John C. Leonard for their leadership in providing this exhibit.
