If you’ve had a chance to drive around Huntsville lately, the past year has seen significant development beginning within the town limits. What you may not have realized is that one of these communities is far enough along that over 25 sets of keys have been given to owners this past summer.
Tucked into the landscape at the base of Chartwell, the Highcrest active living community is accessed via Jack St. from Hanes Rd. Just west of the new lights at Centre St, the newly created Jack St may look like just another construction zone but is currently home to one of Huntsville’s best kept secrets.
With new homes popping up all over town, there are several things that make Highcrest unique. Appealing to downsizers and the newly retired, Edgewood Homes has created a transitional community with a mix of bungalow towns, and traditional low-rise condominiums, featuring only quality finishes.
The uncompromising quality provided in all Highcrest homes can best be seen while standing in the model. When entering the model, visitors are spellbound by the high ceilings and huge windows. Those who expect small and intimate, are often amazed with how spacious and thoughtful the open concept design is for the smaller 28’ Algonquin model. The light, and space can only really be understood in 3 dimensions.
Conveniently located at 51 Jack Street, same-day viewings by appointment can often be arranged, by calling 705.224.4663 or emailing their office at [email protected] Absolutely every detail must meet Edgewood’s strict standards. “Builder grade” or low-quality inexpensive finishes are simply not offered, and a selection of Quartz and hardwood are available for no additional cost.
Featuring only quality Canadian made cabinetry throughout, and a 9’ island, the open kitchen/dining room is perfect for a quiet meal or entertaining.
For those who love sitting outdoors, glass railings expand the view on your large, covered deck backing onto a natural town buffer. Fully finished with clad posts, soffit and privacy screen, these outdoor spaces provide an additional luxury unrivaled in similar communities
Only a limited number of premium walkouts are currently available for reservation in Phase II. Each of these homes backs onto a natural town buffer creating a feeling that your home is in the woods.
With a focus on creating communities and not just building houses, Edgewood Homes has created an integrated social and activity philosophy specifically designed for seniors. Utilizing quality hardscape, and outdoor fitness equipment, the outdoor common spaces at Highcrest will combine with treed buffers and walking trails, to create a community with health and wellbeing at its core.
Indoor community spaces will be available to host meetings and social events. Aiming to create spaces suitable to both the formal and casual, all common spaces will be created with the same quality and contemporary aesthetic as the homes.
With the goal of creating a community spirit, based on trust and open communication, Highcrest offers something extra at every turn. Take a few minutes to view the model and see for yourself. Their noncommissioned sales staff can answer your questions without pressure, and their genuine pride of the Highcrest community can’t be understated.
Since all model showings are by appointment, just call the main office 705.224.4663 or email [email protected] and someone will find a time that suits your schedule. If you’d like to take a quick drive past the model at 51 jack St. evenings and weekends are recommended since Phase II construction is well underway.

This new idea to build these townhouses is a great thing for some people. For those of us who moved to a quieter area because of downsizing and some are seniors looking for peace and quiet this new construction everywhere is disturbing. When we purchased a town home in Serenity Place we didn’t have any construction or development anywhere around us – a year ago- now townhouses below us, apartment buildings being erected and the new Fairvern as well as a mall with Freshco and who knows what else. We can hardly get out of our road onto Center Street for traffic. I am wondering if the Town would rather have the money than worry about the residents who have lived a long life here contributing to this town in many ways. People come here from the cities to relax and enjoy our landscape, now this small town has little to offer in that regard. A moose was in our complex last week for
a few days – why would he be here – because we are slowly removing their habitat. Town Fathers need to rethink what they are approving for development!!
Negative comments not necessary.

This is a beautifully appointed development geared to downsizers. Not the most affordable but the quality of construction appears superior to many. Now if we can get the developer thinking about low income affordability under 250k I’d like to talk to them.
