Muskoka Seniors celebrates new, more accessible office space

Muskoka Seniors has been supporting the local community for more than 30 years and now has a new location to help it serve seniors even better.

“This space is wonderful because it is one-floor living for us,” says Muskoka Seniors executive director, Jenn Pfrimmer. “We’re accessible to everyone, there’s adequate parking not only for our transportation vehicles but for our clients as well, and it has a lot more usable space.”

There’s ample room for staff to sit and chat with clients about available services, Pfrimmer notes. Those who partake in the organization’s Meals on Wheels program can pick up their meals in person, if they prefer. And new at this location is a book nook where seniors can take a book or leave a book, and pause for a chat.

Staff and a handful of clients celebrated the new location with an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony on Nov. 25. Mayor Karin Terziano was on hand to do the honours.

“Sometimes I think our seniors’ services get lost in the shuffle of everything else and I think it’s so important, because the more we do for seniors and the more they can stay at home, the better we all are,” she said. “This is an amazing organization and I think they deserve as much support as we can throw at them.”

Muskoka Seniors has provided service to more than 850 different clients this year. They must fundraise more than 50 per cent of their annual operating budget to support the needs of seniors in the community.

The design for the new space was donated by Trina Clarke of Evolve Interior Design.

“Trina worked her magic,” said Pfrimmer, adding that the design made all the difference for a smooth transition. The organization only had to close its doors for four days, from a Friday through a Monday.

Muskoka Seniors delivers about 8,000 meals per year, but only receives funding to support 4,500 of those. Donations support the rest. Drivers travel about 1,200km per month. (Dawn Huddlestone)

Muskoka Seniors is open Monday to Friday from 9-4. Visitors are welcome to stop in anytime. “We’d love to see you,” says Pfrimmer. “Come say hello and check out our space.”

Muskoka Seniors is located at 4-55 Centre Street N. Learn more at muskokaseniors.org.
