Muskoka Onstage’s production of Mamma Mia! has star-studded cast

Submitted by the Huntsville Festival of the Arts

Rehearsals for the joint Bracebridge and Huntsville production of Mamma Mia! have begun with a large and talented cast. The interest from the Muskoka area and beyond in auditioning for this play was incredible. As a result, the leads are a powerful combination of experience and talent which will blow the roof off both theatres.

Tracy Hoehner, Amy Bridle-Phillips, and Sherisse Stevens will take on the three adult female leads with the young female characters played by Emma Gibbs, Sherrie Gordon and Alberta Robinet. Male leads include Mike Pearse, David Walton and Parres Allan with young male thespians, Tim Lucier, Shaman Johann and Patrick Dempsey. They are joined on stage by a chorus of over 30 talented local actors.

Tia Pearse, who is the principal at Tawingo College and has been immersed in theatre her entire life, is replacing Wayne Noble as Director due to logistics that have prevented him from continuing in that role.

Tia is well known in Muskoka for her work as an actor, choreographer and director for both the Rotary Club of Bracebridge’s annual musical and the Huntsville Festival of the Arts/ Rotary Club of Huntsville productions. Her Huntsville repertoire includes directing The Drowsy Chaperone, Seussical Jr. and co-directing Ten! (with John A McDonald) as well as choreographing countless shows. In Bracebridge she directed The Drowsy Chaperone and choreographed and starred in Gypsy, as well as acting and choreographing in other shows.

I’m honoured to be part of this project. I’ve loved working with all three organizations and I’m excited by this collaboration. Mamma Mia is going to be a fantastic show. We have a talented and devoted cast, and the energy is wonderfully positive. Folks in Muskoka won’t want to miss it!
Tia Pearse

Part of the talented team working with Tia includes the Musical Director, Neil Barlow, the Choral Director, Fran Harvey, and co-choreographer Shannon Morrison, all of whom are experienced and inspiring leaders who look forward to working with Tia to bring her vision to the stage.

With this direction, these leads and a large and talented cast backing them up, the show will sparkle, sizzle and dazzle. Tickets are on sale now and already getting snapped up.

The show runs at the Rene Caisse theatre in Bracebridge from February 22-24 and February 28-March 2, and at Huntsville’s Algonquin Theatre from March 22-24 and March 28-31.

Regular tickets for Mamma Mia! can be purchased through each theatre’s box office, online or by phone at each theatre for prices of $30.00 for adults and $20.00 for students. Special prices (available only by calling the box office) are available for a family of four ($90) and for groups of 10 or more (only $20.00 per ticket). All prices are plus HST.

It sounds amazing, and I hope that this concept of collaboration will be continued into the future. I’m so happy to see that Sherisse will be singing; rather than displaying her not inconsiderable talent as a pianist. I quite realize that Serge Charlebois and Kasey Stephan are very busy with work and a young family; but I would have loved to see them in the “Pierce Brosnan part” and co-choreographer, respectively.
