The Muskoka Loppet is just three weeks away and a team of volunteers is gearing up for the annual event. Its popularity has increased steadily over the years and more than 300 racers are expected this year. Even if you’re not an experienced skier, consider taking part — the emphasis of a loppet is fun, say organizers. Event-day volunteers are needed, too.
This year, the Muskoka Loppet will take place on Sunday, January 28 at Arrowhead Provincial Park. Its a Nordic ski event, in the classic style of skiing (no skating), with a 5-kilometre course for “social skiers” and children, and more challenging 15 and 30-kilometre courses for recreational and competitive skiers.
Holding a weather-dependent event is always a challenge but the organizers are confident that comfortable winter conditions will make this a perfect day.
You must register online by January 25; no registrations will be accepted after that date. To register, visit arrowheadnordic.ca. If you would like to volunteer for a few hours, please contact Michele Schwemmer at [email protected] or call 705-224-4912. Help is needed at registration, along the course, at the finish line, and at the food stations.
