There have been a lot of changes in the way care is provided to residents at Muskoka Landing over the past 15 years.
“It’s exciting to have been providing services to seniors in Huntsville in the last 15 years,” said Carrie Acton, the Administrator at Muskoka Landing. “Lots of changes have happened in the industry and Jarlette Services, who owns us, are leaders in the industry and very innovative in providing services.”
“Some of the bigger changes are education of staff and the different programs we’re able to offer residents,” Acton continued. “So being able to tailor our programs to residents’ wants and needs. Seniors are coming in more frail, requiring more care, so we have to ensure our staff are educated and up to speed on everything happening.”
Other changes Acton noted are making Muskoka Landing feel more like a home, especially with the bath and tub rooms seeming more spa-like versus institutional, along with the home areas and residents rooms being more home-like. “We know we can never replace it but we want to give them that feeling,” she said.
There are 94 residents living at Muskoka Landing ranging in age from 60 to 90-plus. “We’re taking time to celebrate with our residents and family and thanking them for trusting us to provide care to their loved ones,” Acton said.
Councillor Bob Stone was at the celebration and congratulated staff on their accomplishment. “I heard some of the staff have been here since the start, that’s amazing,” he said speaking to those at the celebration. “We hope to see Muskoka Landing expand and be here for decades to come.”
Acton said they encourage people to come in and take a tour. “We offer high-quality resident care. The safety and care of our residents is number one.”
Acton said there are volunteer opportunities as well if people think they have a skill or talent they can share with the residents. Contact Muskoka Landing at 705-788-7713.
