The Muskoka Dance Academy (MDA) National Dance Team, consisting of ten seniors, nine juniors and two coaches, travelled to Las Vegas, Nevada last week to attend a prestigious convention and competition called “The Dance Awards”. This was a trip of a lifetime and one they have been planning for a while.
The seven-day event was jam-packed full of dance. During the first three days, the MDA dancers competed in Musical Theatre (89.00), Jazz (89.00), Hip Hop (90.00) and Tap (91.00). Their marks were high and the competition was fierce. It was such an amazing opportunity to be able to compete at such an elite level, amongst some of the best in the world and do so well. The Dance Awards is not only one of the most recognized conventions in the industry but is clearly one of the most popular amongst celebrity dancers and choreographers.
After the competition was over, the dancers attended workshops for the next four days. Dancers took
classes with Twitch, Travis Wall, Ray Leeper, Mandy Moore, Stacey Tookey and more, as they danced alongside reality stars like Eva Igo, Kalani Hilliker and Brynn Rumfallo (“The World of Dance” and “Dance Moms”). It was awesome to see these celebrities in action on and off the stage and snap a few photos.
It was particularly exciting when one of the Muskoka Dance Academy dancers, Andrea Hill, was picked out of a group of roughly 500 by Cirque du Soleil’s casting agent during a workshop put on by the choreographer and dancers from “Mystique”.
MDA teachers are humbled by the class and professionalism that MDA dancers displayed. A very proud moment for all MDA teachers and parents. Thank you, Huntsville, for allowing this opportunity to unfold. Your generous support and donations over the past two years covered the cost of 21 team members ($10,000) to attend educational workshop classes with the best in the business. It was an experience of a life time and one that won’t be forgotten.
Pictures of all the dancers and their amazing experience are posted on the Muskoka Dance Academy’s Instagram and Facebook Page.
