Submitted by the Ministry of Transportation
The Ministry of Transportation wishes to advise that the median crossover at Highway 11 and South Mark Lake Road / Stephenson Road 4 will be closed on March 23, 2020.
Public safety is the ministry’s top priority. To ensure safety of the travelling public, the median crossover will be closed.
Right in and right out turning movements will continue to be available at this location.
The ministry has also initiated a detail design assignment to review and implement long term safety improvements at this intersection. Construction of these longer term safety improvements is anticipated to begin in 2021.
For the latest information on highway closures and construction the public can call 511, MTO’s Road Information Line, or check www.511on.ca.

Agreed. Hopefully these are in the plan.
Closing the crossing will not eliminate all the dangers. The right-on, right-off on the northbound side is still quite hazardous. If someone is turning off, it creates a blind spot for someone turning on. Their view is blocked by the turning vehicle and they can’t see the vehicles in the right lane which are going 100k+ per hour.
This could easily be solved by putting a small acceleration slip land for those turning on to highway 11 northbound. They also need a slip lane at Stephenson 8.
A simple solution. It costs practically nothing and that’s the point.
Long overdue! Yes, there will be some impact on the businesses at the intersection. Hopefully part of MTO’s strategy will include adequate signage at the 141 overpass for southbound traffic wishing to patronize the businesses, via Greer Road.
It’s good that the crossover will be closed…..but does this mean the Stephenson Rd 4, Lone Pine Dr and The Old Hwy will be improved so that we can get to the bridge at Hwy 141. The back roads are full of pot holes, the culverts are collapsing and in a total state of disrepair.
