Matthew McKinnon

It is with unimaginable heartbreak and sadness that we regretfully share the unexpected passing of our Son, Matthew, at the age of 39.

His passion was music and DJing. He loved dancing, especially breakdancing. Matthew had a great respect for nature and the great outdoors and loved camping, hiking, and feeding the birds. He enjoyed sailing and kayaking, learning to sail when he was five years old. He was happy skiing and snowboarding and teaching the kids at Hidden Valley Ski Club when he was a teenager. He loved the mountains of B.C. And made his home there. A very talented carpenter who will be missed by those who worked alongside him.

Matthew was a brilliant writer and really had a way with words. He loved animals and was so gentle, kind, caring, compassionate, and generous, giving praise and acknowledgment to those he called friends. Matt had a deep love for his family and friends and made everyone feel special and loved.

I hope people will remember his great sense of humor, his laugh, and his big, huge hugs. He had the best hugs.

Matthew will be deeply missed and remembered every day by his Dad, Paul, Mom, Anne, and sister Katherine. Also by his Grandma Pamela McKinnon and many aunts, uncles and cousins and many friends.

Matthew is predeceased by his Grandpa Johnny and Grandma Dorothy Donaldson and Grandpa Alex McKinnon. We know they are looking after you now.

He will always hold a very special place in our hearts. You were truly a beautiful soul.

A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, June 22, 2024, from 1-3 p.m. at Billingsley Funeral Home, 430 Ravenscliffe Road, Huntsville.  Speeches were heard at 2 p.m.

“Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes. Because for those who love with their heart and soul, there is no separation.” -Rumi

In lieu of flowers, hug your loved ones and smile at Matthew’s memory.
