It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Malcolm, at the Georgian Bay Hospital, after a brief illness.
He was predeceased by his brother, Donald Burwash; and daughter, Susan Burwash Koch. Malcolm is survived by his daughter, Brenda Burwash Ross (Gord); his loving partner, Margaret-Anne Baker, and her daughters, Laurel- Ann Baker Corneli (Luc) and Susan Wregget. He was affectionately known as Gramps to his grandchildren: Taylor, Spencer, Mitchell Fargey, McKenzie and Grayson Koch, Matthew and Courtney Wregget, Calaya Corneli.
Malcolm was a formidable presence in life, truly one of a kind. Born in Montreal, he spent his childhood in Hudson, Quebec, before moving to Port Credit for high school. Following his education, he successfully managed Adam Burwash Men’s Clothing Store. Malcolm then embarked on a career as a real estate agent, serving for over 40 years as Vice President of Royal LePage Commercial and Colliers International. He found great joy in sailing ‘Red Jacket’ from the RCYC and curling at Mississauga Golf Club.
His lifelong love affair with Lake of Bays began 71 years ago when he worked at Bigwin Resort. Malcolm was deeply involved in his community, serving as past President of Port Credit Rotary, Director of Lake of Bays Association, Federation of Cottage Association, and Bob Rumball Camp for the Deaf. Malcolm will be fondly remembered for his remarkable ability to forge and maintain close friendships, as well as his infectious humour and captivating storytelling, which endured until the very end.
The family will receive friends for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 3, 2024, 12-3 p.m., at Bethune United Church, 2 Dickie St., Baysville, ON. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Villa Care Centre, Midland, Ontario, or a charity of your choice.
