MAHC to receive base funding boost of $2.6M

From the office of MPP Graydon Smith

Today, Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP Graydon Smith announced another $6.6 million in new funding for local hospitals across the riding.

“Our government continues to put Parry Sound-Muskoka at the top of the priority list,” said Smith. “This new funding is a testament to our steadfast commitment to ensure that rural and small town hospitals – like those in Parry Sound, Bracebridge and Huntsville – have the funding required to deliver excellent accessibility and quality of care.”

Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) will be receiving a base funding increase of $2,561,122, while the West Parry Sound Health Centre (WPSHC) will receive a $1,813,567 increase in base funding along with one-time funding of $2,186,433 to address in-year pressures.

“We’re now at over $527 million in funding for Parry Sound-Muskoka since June of 2022,” said MPP Smith. “No government has demonstrated itself as committed to the needs of our communities as the current provincial government. This new funding will make real, on-the-ground improvements to patient care and overall quality of life in Parry Sound-Muskoka.”

Doppler reached out to MAHC via email for comment on the additional base funding and what it means for the organization, and Director of Communication and Stakeholder Engagement Bobbie Clark simply responded: “MAHC is grateful to Graydon Smith and the provincial government for the increase in base funding.”

UPDATE

Doppler received the following statement from MAHC the following day:

“We are incredibly grateful for the $2.6 million base funding increase from the Ministry of Health announced by MPP Graydon Smith this week. This investment will help MAHC address financial pressures, enhance patient care, and improve access to vital services for our growing community.

Like hospitals across Ontario, MAHC faces significant financial challenges in meeting the increasing demands on our healthcare system. This funding acknowledges those pressures and reinforces the government’s commitment to supporting rural hospitals and ensuring high-quality care for the Muskoka and area,” according to Dave Uffelmann, Chair of Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare Board of Directors.
