For local hair stylists Tanya Blain and Jaime Mason, good things came out of Huntsville’s 2019 floods: a new friendship and a business partnership.
After Tanya was forced from her salon, Crimson Dawn, due to flooding that covered the pump station and cut power to her business for more than three weeks, she messaged Jaime at Gemini Hair Studio and Day Spa asking to use a chair in her space for a few weeks so she could continue to serve her clients.
Jaime was more than happy to lend Tanya the space and says she believes in supporting community and other hair stylists.
Tanya says that when it was time for her to move back to her space at Crimson Dawn, she was sad to go back to her salon alone and missed the girls she had bonded with at Gemini. Jaime and her business partner of 12 years, Terri-Lynn Banks, felt the same way.
“I really missed working with another hair stylist,” says Jaime. “When Tanya was with us it all felt so right. I genuinely believe that everything happens for a reason and I knew that us working together permanently would create such an amazing environment.”
Tanya took over Crimson Dawn on her own in December after Kathryn Foley, the salon’s owner for more than 28 years but under a different business name, retired. She says it felt lonely being all on her own in the salon every day and was excited at the idea of Jaime and Terri-Lynn moving in.
“There was a lot of change going on in our lives and this felt like the perfect time for this change as well,” says Jaime.
“Good things come out of hard circumstances,” added Tanya. “We never would have come together it it weren’t for the flood.”
Tanya and Jaime offer all types of hair services, while Terri-Lynn provides all aesthetics including manicures, pedicures, waxing, makeup application, and facials. Jaime and Terri-Lynn will continue to operate as Gemini Hair Studio and Day Spa in the new location.
Gemini’s last day at their old location (60 Main Street E) will be June 28, and they will officially be working out of Crimson Dawn as of Tuesday, July 2. Their email addresses and social media accounts will remain the same.
“We are so excited to welcome all of our clients to our new space,” says Terri-Lynn.
Crimson Dawn is located above Boston Pizza at 7 John Street.
