It pains Paul Lagendyk to know that people in our community are hungry, especially kids.
“Food is a basic necessity,” says Ladendyk. “It’s a very fundamental building block that everything else relies on. When you can feed a child before he goes to school, he does better in school. If you can feed parents, they are better able to cope with life and work. No one is happy when they are hungry.”
It’s why he and other local musicians Gina Horswood, The Big East and Stevie Jewel have teamed up with a fundraising concert – Help for Hunger on November 3 in Barrie – to raise money for Simcoe Muskoka food banks. In Huntsville, funds will go to The Table Food Bank and the Salvation Army Food Bank.
“I’ve played quite a few shows in Muskoka, this will be the first time in Barrie,” says Lagendyk. “Everyone in Muskoka has been incredibly supportive but I grew up in Barrie so it’s like a homecoming. Because Muskoka has so supportive, I wanted to include Muskoka food books (in the fundraiser).”
Lagendyk says the evening promises four great live acts ranging from country to folk to rock, along with door prizes and a 50/50 draw.
“Come for the cause, because no one should be hungry at Christmas,” says Lagendyk.
Tickets are available here; all proceeds from the charity concert will be divided among the food banks in Simcoe Muskoka. If you can’t make it but still want to support the fundraiser, contact Lagendyk at [email protected].
