Cindy Foulger matched her career with her passion for people at Community Living Huntsville.
“I like to help people and make a difference in their lives,” she says. “It’s a great place to work.”
Foulger, educated as a personal support worker and social service worker, had previously worked in that field in a few different communities across Ontario. When her sister, Wendy Beaumont, who already worked for Community Living Huntsville, started praising the work, the people, positive team environment, good pay and benefits, training, and opportunities for advancement it offered, Foulger decided to make a career change. She joined the team in November 2022.
Now, as a full-time Direct Support Professional with Community Living Huntsville’s Supported Group Living team, Foulger empowers adults with developmental disabilities in their independence and supports them to improve their quality of life, both at home and in their community. In a day, she might support a person with their morning routine and meals, assist them in planning for the day, accompany them as they as they go about their daily lives around town, and then ensure they are comfortable and confident when they return home.
“Whatever they like to do,” says Foulger. “Just making sure people are happy, healthy and safe, and helping to improve their quality of life.”
As for the work environment, she says she enjoys how everyone works as a team, that everyone helps each other, and that she feels supported by her supervisors and managers. “If you have any questions, or you have a problem, you can ask anybody and they will be there to help you,” she says. She also enjoys the people she supports. “It’s a great place to work. I have a lot of fun. You go home and feel happy that you had a good day,” she says.
She considers her work as more than a job.
“You make a difference in people’s lives,” she says.
