Kiwanis Sap Run: fun for kids that raises funds for kids

What snow? One last blast of winter today didn’t deter about 40 kids from participating in the second annual Kiwanis Sap Run, a fun run hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Huntsville Muskoka.

The short race route began in River Mill Park and looped through Main Street before returning to its starting point. Kids aged three to seven ran about 500 metres while the older eight to 13 group did two loops for a total of about one kilometre. Each participant received a lanyard with a finishers’ ‘medal’: a small bottle of maple syrup.

The Sap Run is the first fundraiser of the year for the club, which supports local projects that help kids.

“We raise funds for local children’s charities around Muskoka,” said Halley Clover, club president-elect and one of the event organizers. In the past, the young local club, which was established in 2017 and was the first new Kiwanis charter in its division in more than 30 years, has supported building the accessible playground at Huntsville Public School, youth theatre clubs, and local school programs.

“We are a wee club but we are always looking for members,” added outgoing club president Brittany Robbins.
