The snowy weather did not stop the Caledon Hawks from meeting the Junior C Otters on their home ice on Friday, December 8. The Hawks expected to take the win after a tough loss for the Otters the weekend before but the Otters’ players got healthy and definitely regrouped to come out on top.
Friday’s home game had the Otters bench stacked with an almost full line up, minus only Everett Nudd who is out with an injury, which made a huge difference. Coach Brent Tomlinson said the team came out firing on all cylinders against Caledon. “For the first time this year, you could see and feel a sense of brotherhood developing within the dressing room.”
Both coaches called Mitchell Jones’ goaltending “top notch” and “a fabulous performance” after he made thirty-nine saves over the game.
Coach Marc Gagnon added, “Friday’s game was a heated one and the guys played their systems well to come out on top over Caledon.”
With seventy-two penalty minutes in total for both teams, it seems that each team was fighting for the win. The Otters held Caledon off and won 3-2.
“Overall, as a team, we executed well,” said Tomlinson.
The night ended with all three stars going to Huntsville players:
1st Star: Mitchell Jones (HUN)
2nd Star: Tyler Gervais-Rolfe (HUN)
3rd Star: Nathan Delarosbil (HUN)
On Saturday, December 9, the Otters travelled to Orillia to play against the Terriers. It was another successful night for the Otters as it was a team effort.
“The team is gelling nicely as a group,” said Coach Gagnon.
“We simply continued to do the little things right, we continued to do the things that brought us success the previous night,” added Coach Tomlinson. ”The boys hear me say this often, we need to play the game the right way, and we’ve done just that this weekend, and with it, came success. Our penalty kill, which is run by Coach Marc, continues to lead the way for us and was perfect again on Saturday night allowing no goals in on six Orillia power plays.”
Off the ice, some of the players also stopped in at Partners Hall this week to celebrate with the team’s long-time volunteer and fan, Rex Malloy, who turned 80 on Wednesday.
The Otters capped off the week with a third win on the road against Schomberg last night, December 14. Huntsville scored once in each period — Tye Sterne assisted by Alex Brisson and Connor Small in the first; Joseph Tabet on the powerplay assisted by Tye Sterne and Josh Quinn; and Tyler Gervais-Rolfe assisted by Josh Quinn and Tye Sterne in the third. Schomberg responded with just one goal in the second, leaving the Otters with a 3-1 win. Tye Sterne skated away with first star of the game; goaltender Mitchell Jones got third star.
The Junior C Otters will be playing at home for the next four-game stretch, starting tonight, Friday, December 15 against Orillia at 8:00 p.m. They meet Alliston on the 17th at 2:30 p.m., Schomberg on the 22nd at 8:00 p.m. and Midland on the 29th at 8:00 p.m. Come and cheer on your home town team!
