Lake Vernon seasonal residents John and Tracy Di Cesare hosted a Joker’s Wild Poker Run, with event proceeds benefiting Huntsville Hospital, on Saturday August 14.
Participants travelled by boat through Huntsville’s three main lakes, Vernon, Fairy and Peninsula, and stopped at five poker stations where they drew a card.
The top three best five-card stud poker hands won cash prizes of $3,000, $1,000 and $500 respectively and each winner generously donated their winnings back to the Hospital Foundation.
In total $56,366 NET proceeds were raised to purchase lifesaving equipment for Huntsville Hospital.
“I’m absolutely overwhelmed and humbled by the support for this event. This was an event which allowed for Huntsville full-time and seasonal residents to join forces and support a truly universal public service – our combined health,” says John Di Cesare.
The event’s presenting sponsor was Shoppers Drug Mart with poker station sponsors Kimberly Clark, The Hunt House, John & Tracy Di Cesare/Nydock, Jason Armstrong’s Drive Muskoka, and Brittany Evans and Richard Scully at Harvey Kalles Realty.
The Foundation would also like to thank JJ Long and Boom Imaging for designing and printing the maps, Dan Pinckard for the photography and drone video, and Bullock’s Independent for providing drinks and snacks.
Best Themed Boat went to Doug and Marg Bennett with the SS Minnow who won a foursome of golf at Deerhurst Highlands.
All Ontario Recycling topped off the day by donating an additional $10,000 to the event. The Di Cesare’s and the Foundation are deeply touched by their commitment to keeping quality healthcare local.
Katherine Craine, executive director of Huntsville Hospital Foundation explains, “The Di Cesare’s are not new to planning community events, they value their hospital and community. Entering their fifth year on Lake Vernon and they have already made a beautiful difference in our hospital by hosting and attending events. We can’t thank them enough! We are also deeply grateful for the support of the event from sponsors and participants.”
Next year’s event is already in the works with a tentative date of Saturday, August 13.
