The JJ Dance competitive team has been dancing up a storm with two regional dance competitions in back-to-back weekends.
The first competition was held April 13-15, with team members tackling stormy weather to travel to Collingwood for the Dance Canada Competition. “Although the weather was awful, the results were not,” said studio owner Jennifer Johns-Main.
Johns-Main shared the team’s ‘Defining Moments’ and awards. There were numerous awards for top scorers in the individual age categories ranging from age six to 17. Team JJ earned four third place overall trophies, six second overall trophies and a whopping ten first overall trophies. “The highlight of the weekend was the Acro dancers receiving the highest score in their division and being crowned the ‘Dance Canada Cup Champions,’” added Johns-Main.
With a week’s rest in between, the JJ Dance team was back in full competition mode April 21-22 at Deerhurst Resort for the Luv 2 Dance Competition.
“Once again the dancers put all of their hard work, dedication and talent on the stage and were recognized accordingly,” said Johns-Main.
JJ dancers received Special Judges Awards, Individual Scholarships and 25 Overall Top Scores. Highlights of the weekend included Top Choreography Award for Johns-Main and the Senior Girls’ Jazz number ‘La Vie En Rose’, along with the Top Production award for the ‘Disney Remix’ number. The Most Potential Dancer award went to Cali Turnbull and the Junior Dancer of the Year was awarded to Darian Adams. National Elite Dance Team invites were given to Cali Turnbull, Darian Adams, Ashley Nadrofsky, Emma McClellan and Kaitlyn Wright.
Congratulations to all of the dancers!
How did the dancers top all of that? By winning Top Overall Classic Studio honours for the second year running! Way to go, JJ Dance Team.
“We have so much to be proud of from the Luv 2 Dance Competition,” said one of the parents. “The JJ Dance Team sparkled all weekend. The team came away with so much but, most importantly, we had amazing team spirit and encouragement not only towards each other but also to the other studios.” She also added an inspirational quote that each of the dancers should hear and remember: “To watch us dance is to hear our hearts speak.”
Next up for the JJ dancers is the Luv 2 Dance Nationals in July 2018. All the best!
